The grove

five varieties · planted as a research block

Four hundred trees double as instruments. Each variety has its own water demand, canopy and cold tolerance, so the grove is a living dataset for irrigation scheduling, evapotranspiration models and the solar-and-battery loads that pump and process the harvest.

Rows are laid north–south to even out the long Wairarapa light, and soil-moisture and sap-flow probes feed the same panel that runs the house.
